Lawn Replacement*

Replace irrigated lawn with low-water plants and/or permeable landscape materials such as mulch, decomposed granite, permeable pavers, artificial turf, etc. All high-volume irrigation heads must be permanently glue-capped and/or valves disabled.

Rebate: $1 per square foot of lawn replaced

An additional rebate of up to $1 per square foot is available from the State Department of Water Resources to single-family residences for lawn replacement ($2,000 maximum for each household). A separate rebate application is required. Visit

Low Volume Irrigation*

Replace existing riser mounted or pop-up spray head sprinklers with a low-volume irrigation system — such as drip emitters, in-line drip, sub-surface drip or low-flow bubblers.

Rebate: 50 cents per square foot of the plants at maturity, covered by the new irrigation

Replace impervious asphalt or concrete with pervious asphalt, concrete, unmortared pavers, gravel or other pervious material.

Smart/Weather-Based Irrigation Controller

Replace an older, timer-based irrigation controller with a smart/weather-based irrigation controller (WBIC) that has an onsite weather sensor or adjusts to local weather stations. Web-based weather data and stand-alone rain sensors do not qualify.

Rebate: up to $100 for each replaced controller

Greywater Irrigation*

Use water twice by diverting washer, bathtub or shower water to landscape with a greywater system. The District offers classes and other greywater resources and systems must meet local codes.

Rainwater Catchment

Use free rainwater to water the garden and help manage run-off. Systems must conform to local codes, be secure, prevent mosquito entry and have designed overflows.

Divert downspouts to on-site planters, swales, dry creek beds, rain gardens or infiltration basins, keeping water that would otherwise flow off the property.

Rebate: $75 per downspout with a maximum of four per site

Pressure Regulators**

Install a new pressure regulator or replace an old one. These devices are critical for preventing leaks and all meters should have a working regulator installed at all times.

Rebate: $50 credit for one regulator for the life of the account

Toilets
Rebate Details

High Efficiency Toilets**

Purchase and install EPA WaterSense-certified toilets that are 1.28 gallon-per-flush (gpf) or lower.

Rebate: $100 credit for each replaced toilet that used more than 1.6 gpf, with one that uses 1.28 gpf; $125 credit for each replaced toilet that used more than 1.6 gpf with one that uses less than 1.28 gpf; rebates will only be offered up to the purchase price of the toilet.
