Water Waste Regulations

Water is a finite resource and it is necessary to prohibit and regulate water use. Scotts Valley Water District adopted an ordinance in 1983 to ensure our precious aquifer is preserved.

Prohibited Water Uses:

  • Excessive irrigation to an extent that water is spraying or running onto the sidewalk or street.
  • Water wasted from a known leak or break that should have been repaired within an appropriate amount of time.
  • Outdoor washing of vehicles, buildings, etc. without the use of an automatic shut-off nozzle on the hose.
  • The operation of a fountain or car wash where water is not recycled within the system or is not using recycled water obtained from the Scotts Valley Water District.
  • Running of water or washing with water in a way not already mentioned above that is wasteful and without reasonable purpose.
  • The use of water from a fire hydrant not authorized by permit from the District.

Please report any violations of our water waste regulations. It is important that as a community we work together to maintain the resources we have. Violations can be reported to the district office by calling (831)438-2363, emailing contact@svwd.org or stopping by the district office at 2 Civic Center Drive in Scotts Valley.
